How to sublet your home

As our tenant, you can apply to sublet your home to another student for a limited period. For your application to be approved, you need to meet our criteria for subletting and have a valid reason for the sublet.

Before submitting your application:

  • check that you meet the criteria for subletting
  • check that you have a valid reason for the sublet
  • attach all documents requested in the application form.

Complete the application form and email it together with the requested documents to information@sssb.se.

Criteria for subletting

To sublet your home, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • You have lived in your home for at least six months before applying.
  • You are registered as living at your student home and have been for the past three months.
  • You have an active Student Union membership registered on My Pages.
  • You have completed at least 15 ECTS credits, or equivalent, during the semester preceding your application period.
  • You intend to sublet your home for at least four weeks and no more than twelve consecutive months. For trial cohabitation with a partner, the sublet can be approved for a maximum of six months.
  • You have no outstanding rent debt to Stockholms studentbostäder.
  • Your subtenant studies or intends to study at least 15 ECTS credits, or equivalent, per semester at a higher education institution affiliated with SSCO.
  • Your subtenant has an active Student Union membership registered on My Pages. At the start of the semester, we accept an admission letter.

Valid reasons for subletting

You can apply to sublet your home for the following reasons:

Exchange studies

You need to attach:

  • Your latest transcript showing that you have completed at least 15 ECTS credits, or equivalent, during the semester preceding your application period.
  • Your certificate of registration for the current semester.
  • A certificate from your higher education institution in Stockholm confirming that the credits you complete during your exchange period will count towards your degree. The certificate must include your name, Swedish personal identity number, higher education institution, the period covered by the exchange and how much of your studies you will have left when you return. The certificate must be issued on the institution’s official letterhead and signed by your study supervisor or another authorised representative. See template.
  • Your subtenant’s certificate of registration showing at least 15 ECTS credits, or equivalent, for the semester covered by the sublet.
  • A power of attorney. The power of attorney should be given to someone you trust, such as a family member, who can represent you if something happens in your home while you are abroad.

Free term

You need:

  • A decision showing that you have an approved free term from Stockholms studentbostäder for the period covered by the sublet.
  • Your subtenant’s certificate of registration showing at least 15 ECTS credits, or equivalent, for the semester covered by the sublet.

Trial cohabitation with a partner

You need to attach:

  • Your latest transcript showing that you have completed at least 15 ECTS credits, or equivalent, during the semester preceding your application period.
  • Your certificate of registration showing at least 15 ECTS credits, or equivalent, for the semester covered by the sublet.
  • Your subtenant’s certificate of registration showing at least 15 ECTS credits, or equivalent, for the semester covered by the sublet.

Granted exemption from the Housing Committee

You need to attach:

  • The decision granting you an exemption from the Housing Committee.
  • Your subtenant’s certificate of registration showing at least 15 ECTS credits, or equivalent, for the semester covered by the sublet.

Subletting during the summer

If you live in a one-room apartment, collective housing with 12-month rent or an apartment with two to four rooms, you can apply to sublet your home during the summer period 1 June–31 August.

Student rooms with rent-free months in June and July cannot be sublet during the summer period.

The following criteria apply to summer subletting:

  • You have lived in your current home for at least six months.
  • You are registered as living at your student home and have been for the past three months.
  • You have an active Student Union membership registered on My Pages.
  • Your tenancy review during the spring has been approved before you submit your application.
  • You intend to sublet your home for at least four weeks.
  • You have no outstanding rent debt to Stockholms studentbostäder.
  • Your subtenant is an active student.
  • You are not on a study break during the spring semester.
