Together with Our Tenants, We Contribute to a Sustainable Future

Thinking and acting sustainably is important to us at Stockholms studentbostäder, which is why we work with sustainability as an integrated part of our entire organization. Our ambition is for sustainability to be a natural part of our daily operations.

We Think Globally Through the UN’s Agenda 2030

Stockholms studentbostäder wants to contribute to global sustainable development. That’s why we have chosen to use the UN’s Agenda 2030 and the global goals for sustainable development as guiding principles in our work.

To make the most meaningful contribution, we have selected three overarching goals to focus our sustainability efforts on. These goals are based on where we can make the greatest impact within social, economic, and environmental sustainability:

  • Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being
  • Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities

We Aim to Reduce Our Climate Impact

With a property portfolio of over 8,500 student apartments housing approximately 12,500 students and cohabitants, we have, together with our tenants, a great opportunity to make a positive difference. Since 2015, we have actively worked to reduce our energy consumption and have implemented a number of measures over the years with good results. For example, we have installed solar panels, exhaust air heat pumps, and wastewater heat exchangers in several of our properties to reduce energy consumption.

We conduct climate assessments to map the organization’s greenhouse gas emissions and strive to reduce our emissions, especially in the areas where we have the most influence.

One important area of sustainability is waste sorting, where we aim to reduce the total amount of waste while increasing the proportion that is source-sorted. We also have the ambition to work more circularly by focusing on reuse. We have introduced reuse rooms for students in some of our properties and have also started reuse initiatives within property management, where we now save materials and reuse instead of always purchasing new items.

Safety and Social Meeting Places

In terms of social sustainability, we focus on increasing safety in our housing areas while working to create social environments that give tenants opportunities to socialize.

In our larger housing areas, we have community associations whose mission is to organize joint activities for the students. And with our annual events like the Backyard Festival at Kungshamra and open-air cinema at Lappis, we offer additional opportunities for students to meet and connect.

We continue our unwavering commitment to greater sustainability—together with our 12,500 tenants, we can make a difference.
